Look before you read

Open Lumi’s story and pause when the blue flowers lose their colour. Ask your child what Lumi might notice first. Give them time to point to something or answer in their own words.

Listen for the bird

Read until the bird tells Lumi what it misses. Pause there. What would your child like to say to the bird? What could they do if the bird wanted a quiet moment?

Draw the next small moment

Fold a sheet of paper in two. Draw the garden at the start of the story on one side. On the other, draw the moment your child would most like to remember. Invite them to give the pictures their own titles.
